coalitions
The more allies, the stronger we are. That is why we connect up with other organisations, to promote development and remove obstacles.
Women’s organisations, environmental societies, trade unions: many a civil society organisation encourages, from their own angle, people to build an independent livelihood. Co-operation is an obvious next step. We do this in different ways. Several examples follow below.
EEN: take a stand against poverty
We make up the EEN (ONE) coalition together with 50 Dutch organisations. We are committed to the Millennium Development Goals of halving global poverty. These goals are in danger of not being achieved. We focus the attention on that. Many businesses, VIPs and Hivers have joined us.
EEN is part of a worldwide movement. During the international action ‘Stand up against Poverty’ in 2009 more than 173 million people participated. The action made it to the Guinness Book of Records.
Fair Banking Guide
Together with Amnesty International, Friends of the Earth Netherlands and FNV International we have set up the ‘Fair Banking Guide’. And successfully. ING, SNS Bank, Rabobank and Robeca have all revised their policies on investments in cluster munitions and other controversial weapons.
At the Fair Banking Guide site clients can compare banks. Are they investing in nature or in polluting industries? In human rights or in corruption? Dissatisfied clients can use this site to switch their accounts to banks that do invest with a sense of social responsibility.
